Do you suffer from imposter syndrome or feel like a fraud? Do you hold yourself back out of lack of confidence? Do you feel you're not smart enough, talented enough or experienced enough?

It's time to stop playing it small so you can reach your potential and make more money in your business!

When you lack confidence in your business, it can be an extreme setback:

  • You take yourself out of the game, rather than face the competition
  • You undercut yourself by pricing yourself too low
  • You play it small and don't aim  for the speaking positions, client inquiries or ideal clients you really want
  • You set weak goals, so you don't have to face disappointment
  • You spend hours reading books, listening to podcasts and learning about your topic, rather than tapping in to your own zone of genius

Check out the first blog post in this series about 7 setbacks holding you back in your business!

Let me start you off with a pep talk!

You are smarter than you know and more talented than you realize! There will always be someone who has less knowledge than you, less experience than you, or who does things different than you.

Figure out what your zone of genius is and what unique experience you have to offer, then let that guide your work. You can start small to gain the confidence you need to step into bigger and better things. Once you're ready to step up, find a mentor or someone you could hire to back you up and cover you if you end up not being able to handle the task yourself.

Once you start stepping out of your comfort zone, it'll be easier and easier to put yourself out there. Sure, you won't win every deal or land every opportunity, but you have to try!

Remember, you miss 100% of the shots you never take.

Don't get stuck in the "research" phase!

If you find that you're always trying to read one more book, listen to one more podcast, or watch one more webinar before moving forward, I challenge you to give yourself a deadline for your learning. While business growth and knowledge is extremely important, if you're constantly learning and never taking action, you will never reach your potential. By setting a limit to how much time you spend learning, you'll be able to move forward much faster.

Sometimes, too much learning can also pull you away from your zone of genius. You never know whether something is actually working for the person you're trying to learn from, or what their strategy is behind their tactics, so make sure you're not swayed by others. Looking at too many sources can water down your message.

When working on the niche section for the Bosscation "Launch Your Signature Offer" strategy guide, I found myself looking at a ton of different resources to build the pages. But when I went through that section for myself, I realized that it wasn't very helpful. I then recreated the section based off my own strategy, and it's one of my clients' favorite sections now!

Stop the comparison game!

Often, we struggle from imposter syndrome because we're caught up playing the comparison game. We all know who wins and loses in that game... we lose and everyone else wins. The problem is, that's so wrong! We have no idea whether someone is actually as amazing as their social media makes them out to be, what goes into their success, or how long they took to get there.

You can't move forward if you're busy looking sideways! You must follow your own path to develop confidence. If you have to, "unfollow" those who you've been jealous and discouraged by, so you're not tempted to compare yourself to them any longer!

Always Planning and Never Implementing? How to Get Unstuck!

So you’ve got this great idea, and you’re planning it… and planning it… and planning it. But you never take action! If this is you, here's how to break free...

Stuck in the planning phase for your ideas or business? It's time to get unstuck, take action, and start implementing! Here are the steps to take so that you finally take your plan and make it happen! Entrepreneurs can be overwhelmed with decisions, projects and long to-do lists that keep you from creating and finalizing your programs, courses and new services. Stop waiting until everything is perfect... it's time to get started!

Rather watch or listen than read? Scroll down to watch on video!

I couldn't wait to buy a house so I could throw an epic housewarming party! When we finally were closing on a house, I had all of the details planned out in my head... party theme, invitation design, guest list, food and drinks. Yet, when we finally closed, I never threw the party! What happened?

  • I procrastinated and didn't make time for taking action
  • I never set a date, so there was nothing keeping me accountable
  • I wanted my house to be perfect before inviting people in

When it comes to business, there are a lot of things that can keep us stuck in the planning phase and never taking action. But, unlike a housewarming party, there are consequences to never implementing. When you continually plan, plan, plan, you waste a lot of time that could be spent actually working on the project; and by never launching, you're missing out so much potential income!

A business friend of mine had been procrastinating on adding a tripwire to her sales funnel for 8 months. She finally implemented a $13 tripwire and has started to bring in an extra $1500 a month from it! She missed out on $12,000 over the last 8 months by not implementing!!!

Here are the main reasons you get stuck in the planning phase...

You don’t make time to work on it… you try to fit it in between other projects

You need to decide what's a priority. If my friend had known exactly how much passive income she could've been bringing in every month by adding a tripwire, I'm sure she would've taken care of it much sooner. Instead, she prioritized other things that took up her time.

Rather than trying to fit in this project between other tasks, set aside intentional time on your calendar. My favorite way is to take a Bosscation — a few days away from your daily distractions to focus and plan! That way, you can gain momentum and really get through the implementation.

You have lots of ideas, but haven’t decided between them

Perhaps you have a ton of ideas, but can't decide the best one to move forward with, so you semi plan out all of them... or don't plan out any of them! You need to make a decision on who you're building it for, or what exactly you're offering, and move forward so you don't get stuck for months. Build out your foundation. Decide what you’re offering, who you’re offering it to, how you’ll be delivering it, etc. Don’t forget about pricing and marketing.

You're overwhelmed by all of the to-do’s and aren’t sure what to work on first

When you have too many things on your to-do list, it can be easiest to just freeze up and never get started. Map out the major, highest priority tasks. Then break those down into bite-sized pieces that are easy to tackle. That way you can make traction and feel like you're actually accomplishing things.

An example for creating a webinar: decide on a topic, outline script, write script, write slides, design slides, design promo graphics, write marketing emails

You don’t set a public deadline to keep you accountable

If I had sent out the invitations for my housewarming party, I would've been forced to take action with the food, drinks, and decorations. So often, business owners never set a date because they're afraid of not being ready in time. However, by setting a deadline, you'll then have an incentive to get things done and will learn how to prioritize your tasks.

Look over your to-do list to determine how long you’ll need before launching. Add an extra week or two in there as wiggle room and then… here’s the scary part… publicly announce your date!

Let me know in the comments below what you're looking to launch, and when, so I can keep you accountable!

How to Overcome Analysis Paralysis in Your Business

overcome-indecision-and-perfectionism-in-business2.jpg

C'mon, text me back! I was sitting in the fitting room, waiting for Illiah to respond. I'd sent her pictures of every outfit option for our Elevate & Cultivate photoshoot and wouldn't purchase anything until I had her stamp of approval. There were so many options, how could I ever decide on my own? Analysis paralysis had overtaken me.

Indecision in your business is a lot more serious than just choosing an outfit. Every minute wasted on mulling over choices is time that could’ve been spent growing your business or bringing in revenue. What's even worse is when you put time into one thing, only to change your mind and start over with something else.

You need to find the root of the problem to help you overcome indecision. Are you a perfectionist that won't settle for anything less than the best? That will keep you stuck! Have you been criticized for a decision you'd made in the past, so now you want others to make decisions for you? Don't let others affect your choices. Do you lack confidence in yourself? Learn to trust your instincts and press forward with what you've set your mind on.

If you struggle with indecision and trying to make the perfect choice, this video is for you!

And don't miss our FREE decision-making guide, which you can download below. It'll help you make strategic decisions by asking the right questions and weighing your pros and cons by quality not quantity.

7 Business Setbacks Keeping You From Success

Do you have great ideas, but never implement them? Do you find yourself "stuck" and aren't sure how to move forward? Here are 7 business setbacks that are keeping you from success. PLUS, take our free quiz to find out what YOUR biggest setback is, so you can learn how to break free and strive for success! Read more at www.Bosscation.com Bosscation is a business retreat in a box for entrepreneurs to escape from their daily hustle to strategically plan for their business. Our secret sauce is in the strategic planning guides for launching a new offer, planning out your content, or finding your path to profit.

“Take the shortcut,” Tasha said. It sounded like a great idea at the time, since as typical teenagers, we were running late. But the shortcut wasn’t paved and my dad’s conversion van was no match for the mud. Perhaps we should’ve stuck to the long route (no pun intended). It took a knock on a stranger’s door, a diesel pickup truck, some hefty ropes, and wood under the tires to pull us out. So much for a shortcut, right?!

Psst! Looking for the quiz? Scroll down!

In business, whether we’re aiming for the fastest path, taking the long route, or something in between, we often find ourselves stuck. This can keep you from launching that course you’ve been dreaming of, prevent you from delivering content or hinder you from reaching your potential. Getting stuck, and especially staying stuck, can be detrimental to your growth if you don’t realize it’s happening or can’t figure out how to break free.

You know you’re stuck when you find yourself saying things like:

“I just don’t know what to do next...”

“It needs to be perfect before…”

“I can’t decide between…”

“I’m just not ready for…”

Don’t give up on yourself just yet. If you can pinpoint where you’re getting stuck, then you can find a solution. Imagine that you’ve been wanting to launch a YouTube channel, but you keep putting it off. You need to determine what’s holding you back. Are you afraid of being on camera, don’t know what equipment you should buy, not sure what topics to talk about, can’t think of a cool name for your channel, or feel you just don’t have time to plan it all out? These setbacks sound more like excuses (#sorrynotsorry).

Once you evaluate what’s hindering you — perhaps you’re not sure what topics to talk about — then ask yourself, “what are 10 ways I could overcome this?” For our YouTube example, you could ask your audience what they’re looking to learn, search for other YouTube channels that reach a similar market and get inspired by their topics, do a brain dump of everything you know about your field, etc.

If you’re not sure what your setback is, here are 7 of the most common among entrepreneurs:

1. Lack of Time

Usually this one comes down to a lack of prioritizing your time more than a lack of time in general. We all get 24-hours in a day… you need to use them wisely.

2. Indecision

Analysis paralysis and indecision have been some of my biggest hindrances. I tend to overthink and over evaluate every decision, often changing my mind every week. Being slow to make decisions, or lacking to make them at all, can keep you from moving forward at a good pace or at all. (And if you’re ever on Shark Tank, it can cost you a deal)!

3. Perfectionism

Ah, the good ole’ burden of being a perfectionist. You know that done is better than perfect, but you still can’t get yourself to put out anything slightly sub-par.

4. Planning

Planning… tweaking… planning… tweaking… you’ll never finish if you don’t start taking action! I think this one is a compilation of the others. You spend all of your time planning, but then get stuck on a decision or don’t feel it’s perfect, so you do more planning.

5. Research

Rather than actually writing that blog post, creating that course, or recording that video, you feel you need to research your topic a little more. Just one more book… one more webinar… one more podcast, then you’ll feel knowledgeable enough to get started.

6. Confidence

You feel you aren’t smart enough, good enough, experienced enough to be doing what you’re doing, so you play it small and safe or never get started at all. Maybe in a few years, or after I’ve accomplished X, you say. Imposter syndrome can really keep you from reaching your potential and going for your dreams.

7. Money

If only money grew on trees, then we could hire an amazing team, attend every conference, and buy every time-saving software. Unfortunately, it doesn’t, and we’ve all got bills to pay. Like time, this one often comes down to prioritizing it wisely, not just finding more of it (though that definitely helps).

There's Always a Solution

When I worked in marketing at ION Television, our department joke was, “there’s always a solutION" — that phrase has stuck with me ever since. With that said, over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing solutions for overcoming some of these setbacks.
